Discover the Beautiful Surroundings of Villa Dom
Just outside Piacenza is a landscape as long as a dream
Nestled in the heart of the Piacentini hills are three of the most beautiful medieval hamlets in Italy.
Bobbio
Bobbio is the most important town in Val Trebbia. The emblem of the town is Ponte Gobbo, an ancient Roman bridge which is 273 metres long. The area around Bobbio was already occupied during the Stone Age and was later populated by Ligurian settlers. After the Ligurians came the Gauls, later to be followed definitively by the Ancient Romans.
The town became of importance when the Monastery of San Colombano was established in 614. During Medieval times its library became one of the most important in Europe. Also of interest is the Malaspina Dal Verme Castle, another medieval architectural jewel. Since 1995, every summer the wonderful Bobbio Film Festival is held inside the Monastery of San Colombano by the film director Marco Bellocchio. Down towards the valley, along the course of the river Trebbia, visitors can navigate the Strada di Vini e dei Sapori dei Colli Piacentini (the Road of Wine and Flavours of the Piacentini Hills) to discover local wineries and the many products of this area.
